Medicinal Herbal Tea Workshop
A herbalism workshop with Masha Bluestein
Saturday, November 16th, 2024 - 10am - 12 noon
Fall is in the air, put on your favorite sweater and come immerse yourself in the world of herbal teas with this introductory herbalism workshop. In this hands-on class, we will sample 15 different herbal teas, learn different preparation techniques, explore the medicinal benefits of these teas, and learn basic formulation methods for creating herbal tea blends that not only taste delicious, but also have specific medicinal intentions. We will discuss where to source quality herbs, and send you home with the skills and inspiration to start making your own custom tea blends, along with an ounce of tea that we will formulate and blend together as a class.
Tea is one of the oldest forms of medicine and is a gentle yet effective way to experience herbal medicine. The aim of this 2 hour workshop is to send participants home feeling empowered and excited to use medicinal teas for themselves and their families. This class is also guaranteed to alleviate all holiday shopping stress, because custom tea blends make the best presents!
About the Instructor:
Masha Bluestein has spent the past 2 years studying herbal medicine at the California School of Herbal Studies, and interning with herbalist and midwife Becca Kern. While Masha enjoyed her previous life as a trailworker ballerina, her life has shifted to the path of herbalism, as it combines her passion for working outdoors with her passion for holistic healthcare. Masha is thrilled to be back in Bishop, and is ready to get this Eastern Sierra community as obsessed with growing and making their own plant medicine as she is.

About your instructor:
Hallie Vickers moved to Bishop 25 years ago with a love for rock climbing and the mountains. Several years later she moved to Santa Barbara to pursue a nursing degree… it was in Santa Barbara that she immersed herself in Salsa dancing, ultimately dancing and performing with a local Latin dance company, Salsa Barbara. Upon returning to Bishop to settle down, she brought that love of Salsa home with her, teaching Salsa classes and fusion dance classes for many years prior to diving into family life and embracing a career as a RN Care Coordinator. Basic Color Theory with Acrylic Paint with Marijke
Cancelled
Come in and brush up on your knowledge of basic color theory while we also dive into some deeper color theory topics!
In this class, we will only be breaking out the primary colors to learn how to best mix them and create our very own abstract art piece where all of the colors will be unique to your own pallet.
I challenge all of those who attend to lose the black in your color mixing and keep the saturation at its most vibrant!
This class will start by reviewing the primary and secondary colors and then we will dive into the tertiary, analogous, and complementary colors. Once we review the basic color theory topics, we will then apply our new found knowledge to create abstract paintings that celebrate color!
By the end of this class, you will be able to ditch the unwanted brown mixture and only create it when you choose!

Plein Air On The Go Sketch Class
A plein air painting workshop with Krystina Maixner
Wednesday, September 4th, 2024 - 6pm - 8pm
Join Krystina Maixner (known online as @chalkfox) for a plein air sketching class where you will learn to prepare a compact five-minute plein air sketch kit and learn the art of creating quick, beautiful sketches anywhere you are. Whether you are hiking, taking a break on a long drive, or relaxing in your backyard, this class will equip you with the skills to capture the moment in just five minutes. Perfect for beginners and seasoned artists alike, this session will help you create pieces that can be framed or developed further later.
We will start by preparing your kit, learn what Krystina brings on different occasions for plein air sketching and develop your own plein air kit.
Then learn the basics of five minute sketching and practice with numerous five minute sketch drills.
Materials will be available at C5 Studios for you to use that night, but feel free to bring along anything you might want to use to make your plein air sketch kit. This could be a small watercolor palette, watercolor brushes, pencils, water brushes, pastels, acrylic paints, or anything you like to sketch with.
