In this workshop we will use basic hand-building ceramics techniques to build confidence in exploring clay and its properties. Participants will have the opportunity to make one or two (depending on complexity) fairly small pots, for example a mug or a bean pot or both. You will hand-build your creation and it will be glazed for you, creating a finished ceramic piece of your own design.
All materials and equipment needed will be provided, however if you have your own clay tools you are more than welcome to bring them. This class will focus on learning about clay properties, texture, and pot creation. Finished glazed pots will be available to collect from C5 Studios 2 weeks after the class, allowing time for the work to be fired and glazed.
The cost of this workshop is inclusive of a materials fee of $10 per participant to cover the cost of the specialist materials required.
This workshop is for ages 12+.
This class is limited to 8 places.
About the Instructor:
Bart is a ceramics artist and educator that lives in Big Pine. Bart is originally from Ridgecrest and has lived in the Owens Valley for 35 years. He has a studio at his house where he has worked on pottery from very large to quite small pots. His latests interest involve heavily textured clay typically in non- round forms experimenting in shape and functionality. He has enjoyed sharing his "odd" pottery style in workshops up and down the valley. I was drawn to ceramics at 19 my first semester in college. As he has moved from place to place, he has been able to enjoy expanding his ceramics education in Lancaster, Bakersfield, Lone Pine, Incline Village. At first it was all about throwing pots on a wheel, from tiny to large. Now he enjoys his creativity while camping in the wilderness. Nature inspires.
