Intro to iPhone/Android Photography

Join Mandy to explore the world of phone photography! Maybe you’ve heard that your iPhone / Android has an incredible camera, yet you are still struggling to get the results you want. Truthfully, the camera is only as good as the artist behind it, so let’s learn to use it together.
This course is designed to help beginners take their photography skills to the next level using only their phone. In this course, you will learn the fundamentals of photography such as composition, lighting, and exposure, and how to best use these within the limits of a phone camera. We’ll discuss how to make your photos stand out with a unique perspective. You’ll also learn how to edit your photos using my favorite free editing apps to enhance your images and create unique, artistic pieces.
We will cover the following topics:
Control exposure / lighting on your phone
Create a “shallow depth of field” without portrait mode
Shoot at the best time of day for the best light
Create compelling compositions that make your subject stand out
My favorite (free) editing tools
About the instructor:
Mandy Keathley is an artist, photographer, and teacher who has lived in Bishop for over 2 years. She received an MFA in Art from the University of Oregon and BFA in Sculpture from the University of North Texas. She has been a working artist for 15 years and a part time college faculty for 8 years. She also currently owns a portrait and wedding photography business in the Eastern Sierra. She has exhibited her artwork nationwide, been awarded art grants and art residencies, and loves that she can now integrate her love for art and the outdoors in the most beautiful place.
She loves teaching as a way to connect with others and to share in the creative process. Her teaching style is hands-on, collaborative, and discussion-based. She spends her free time bouldering, hiking, and skiing, both in Bishop and on trips to other beautiful places.
This class is for ages 12+ and all levels of experience are welcome.
