Crochet Basics
A crochet workshop with Sara Sparrow
Saturday April 22nd, 2023 - 10.30am - 12.30pm
Come join instructor Sara Sparrow to learn the basics of the versatile, forgiving, and fun craft form of crochet! Whether you are someone who has never picked up a crochet hook before, or someone who knows the basics, but wants guidance before attempting a more complex project, this workshop will have something for you. Sara will provide instruction on the fundamental stitches of crochet, as well as continuing-level projects such as granny squares, and even crocheted flowers for those who are ready.
Crochet is special among craft forms for its fundamental simplicity, it’s forgiving nature, and the huge diversity of 2 and 3-dimensional items that can be made using the same basic stitch. From decorative doily work, to blankets, clothing, sculptural and conceptual artworks, to functional household items such as washcloths and dish scrubbers, children’s toys and holiday gifts, crochet truly offers a valuable tool for anyone interested in cultivating a more hand-made life. Best of all, the only equipment you need to start is one small hook and a pair of scissors.
Let’s crochet and create together! The instructor will provide a variety of hooks and yarns, but students are encouraged to bring their own supplies if they have specific ideas in mind.
About the instructor:
Sara Sparrow learned to crochet, stitch, and sew from her mother and grandmother as a child, and loved it so much she went on to get a degree in art, with a focus on sculptural fiber work. Her current project, Cirque de Crochet, combines her career as a performance artist with her passion for fiber craft. More at www.sparrowcircus.net.
