A flower pounding workshop with Debbie Walder

Saturday, July 9th, 2022 - 10.30am - 12 noon

Our summer flowers are in full bloom! In this workshop we will be pounding the natural pigments out of flowers, leaves and weeds onto treated muslin. We will create a 5x7 inch sized artwork to frame and a laminated bookmark. Come explore your creativity using nature’s various vibrant blooms!

Leaf hammering is an ancient method of transferring the delicate patterns of leaves to cloth. It is said to have been used by Cherokee women, who used wood ash as the fixer. Participants should bring a smooth edged hammer (most regular hammers will work just fine) and are welcome to bring a small collection of flowers or weeds from your own garden to use. All other supplies are provided.

This workshop is for adults and kids aged 5+. For kids aged 5 - 11 we request that they are accompanied by an adult also participating in the workshop. This is a great parent or grandparent + child activity!
