Colors and Feelings
A mixed media workshop with Monika Metzenthin
Wednesday, July 5th, 2023 - 5.30pm - 7.30pm*
Are you seeing red? Are you feeling blue? Or are you green with envy? Language reflects how deeply connected our feelings are to colors.
In this workshop we will dive deeper into the fascinating field of color psychology and find out how colors affect us on a daily basis. For our project we will collect and select color samples that speak to us and turn them into a collage. We will explore what motivates our color choices, which feelings we connect with each color, whether these feelings are meaningful to us individually based on personal experience or if they are shared universally. Which role do cultural associations play in our reactions to colors? Why do we really like the colors we favor? How can we use color to communicate our feelings?
We welcome adults and children ages 8 and up.
Your instructor will be Teaching Artist Monika Metzenthin who has been facilitating creative experiences for audiences of all ages in all media for over two decades. Monika is a color expert who studied color theory and wrote her doctoral thesis on color in industrial design. She has since taught a broad variety of color workshops spanning from basic color mixing to the physiological and psychological effects of color.
“Creating engaging projects and facilitating creative experiences brings me immense joy. I teach classes and workshops to all ages in all media, develop interactive activities and installations, and consult on curriculum and events and hope to see you at one of my upcoming workshops at C5!” (Monika)
