Expressive Hearts Hand Sewing

A hand-sewing workshop with Lori Michelon in partnership with Eastern Sierra Pride

Wednesday February 14th, 2024 - 5.30pm - 7.30pm

Expressive hearts make great ornaments, Valentine’s Day gifts, or charismatic stuffed companions for your home. Whether you put faces on them or decorate in another way, unstructured sewing is relaxing and a great way to express a feeling or tell a story. Take part in this workshop and learn how to make your very own fabric heart plushie! There will be a few options of base shapes to choose from or you can make whatever shape you like from your own imagination.

Prior sewing experience is not required. We will start by cutting simple fabric shapes, adding embellishments, stuffing, and sewing it all together. Fabric (felt, fleece, other) will be provided as will basic trims and batting/stuffing, but you are encouraged to bring your own fabric scraps, beads, buttons, ribbons, and other trims to use in your personal creations if you wish.

This workshop is by donation, with a suggested donation of $25. If you can, please consider giving more. If you aren’t able to make a donation, you are still welcome to attend! Nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. Registration in advance is highly recommended. To register please email us at contact@c5studios.org.

This workshop is a partnership between C5 Studios and Eastern Sierra Pride.  Please note: This is an affinity space that is 100% queer and trans-inclusive.

About the instructor Lori Michelon:

I first came to the Eastern Sierra to camp when I was 5 months old! Since then, this area has been a big part of my life - many many years of living first in Mammoth, then Tom’s Place. Scattered here and there were other wonderful living places: San Francisco, Reno, Orange County, France, and Sonoma County. All good places for a variety of reasons. It’s always important to get some perspective.

I have an MFA in printmaking from CSULB - received in 2005, after commuting to Long Beach from Tom’s Place for five years!  Printmaking is my love - it’s the BEST:  labor-intensive, meditative, and surprising.

Now I run a small rural library in Crowley and run a small Makerspace there on Thursday afternoons!
