Capturing Insignificance - A Nature Journaling Workshop
A journaling workshop to deepen your innate connection to nature and your own expressive voice with Lauren Newey
This was originally advertised as a two-part workshop but we have now opened single session registration for session 2.
Saturday June 26th, 2021 - 10.30am - 1pm
Our busy lives have us so worried about what’s next that we are often unable to settle into what’s happening presently. There is a lot more activity surrounding us in every moment than we will ever realize; even the stillest moment is teeming with life, energy and wonder.
Humans are unique in our ability to create art but we have learned over time that we are not artists, just as we have learned that we are not a part of nature. Through nature journaling we calm our nervous system, connect to the present moment and release judgement that opens up the possibility for curiosity and awareness, storytelling and introspection.
“The art of listening is in fact the art of composing”- John Cage
Both workshops will be held outside, in the Bishop area, lead by artist, naturalist and teacher, Lauren Newey. We will use exercises to help us tune into our natural surroundings and the present moment, honing our senses and focusing our attention on details that often go unnoticed or are taken for granted.
Field journals and pencils will be provided, or you are welcome to bring your own materials that are appropriate for bringing on a short walk. Please also wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather and for doing some walking.
This workshop is for adults and young people aged 12+.
Please note: As with all our outdoor classes, registration in advance is required. Payment cannot be taken at the event itself.
Scholarships for Teens: We are offering scholarship places and special discounts for teens interested in this workshop as part of a grant from the City of Bishop. Please reach out to us at contact@c5studios.org to find out more!
