Gratitude Circles
A watercolor workshop with Ana Budnyk
Wednesday November 16th, 2022 - 5.30pm - 7.30pm
This class intends to bring us back to what the holidays are about - connection and gratefulness. This 2-hour session will ground us and remind us of what we are most thankful for. We will use the techniques of meditation, reflective writing, and watercolor painting to create a composition that will reflect our gratitude for different facets of our lives. We will also learn about color mixing and brush techniques and how to use art as a mindfulness tool.
Why is it important to practice gratitude?
According to psychologist David DeSteno, “While gratitude does involve showing appreciation for past actions and acknowledging that you can’t always independently satisfy your desires, its true purpose is actually quite different. At a psychological level, gratitude isn’t about the past; it’s about the future. As we’ll see, in preparing people to cooperate with others, gratitude changes what they value. It pushes people to work at the moment to benefit from what is to come. In doing so, it’s an extremely active state, not a passive one. Like all emotions, it influences decisions about what to do next.”
This class is for all levels including people with no prior experience in watercolor. Ages 15+
Workshop materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your brushes, paints, and paper to familiarize yourself with your materials.
